The Sanctuary
The Sanctuary Scheme has been set up in partnership with Erimus Housing to reduce the number of women who are at risk of homelessness due to domestic violence. Any victim of domestic violence can apply for the scheme regardless of whether you are an Erimus tenant, housing association tenant, owner occupier or a private rented tenant.
The Sanctuary Scheme can help you feel safer within your own home by adding extra security measures and creating a safe room in which you can call the police from. These measures can vary depending on the current security of your home and individual circumstances, but can include;
-
Panic alarms (where a house alarm is already in place)
-
Extra/new window locks
-
Extra/new door locks
-
Letter box covers
-
Solid wooden doors to ‘sanctuary room’
-
Fire safety equipment
You can apply to the Sanctuary Scheme by contacting My Sister’s Place directly, or through agency completing the form on your behalf. Once the referral has been received you will be called by the Sanctuary Coordinator who will arrange a home visit where possible to discuss with you your needs and circumstances.
If you are accepted on to the Scheme the next person you will hear from will be the Crime Prevention Officer who will come round to your property to look at what safety measures are needed. This information will then be passed on to a team of workmen who will then arrange with you a time and date to fit the agreed measures. All of the Sanctuary team are trained in domestic violence and aware of the issues and concerns surrounding this.
Once the work is completed you will hear again from the Sanctuary Coordinator who will continue to support you until 6 months after the work is finished.
If you feel the Sanctuary Scheme would be of benefit to you please call My Sister’s Place and ask for the Sanctuary Coordinator.
