A confidential trauma informed therapeutic service that provides a range of age appropriate therapies for children and young people aged 4 to 18 years who are/have been impacted by traumatic experiences of domestic abuse.
We offer a range of services to support families affected by domestic abuse in Middlesbrough. Prior to any work starting we offer a meet and greet session. This is an opportunity for you to come and meet the therapists you would be working with and discuss what support would be beneficial for you. You can have a look around the building and ask any questions that you may have. You can then take the time to think if you would like to access the service as this is a no obligation appointment and you can change your mind at any time.
ME TIME is a service at My Sisters Place that offers therapy for children and young people aged 4 to 16 who have experienced trauma. Each person gets support that is tailored to their own needs, and sessions are taken at their pace in a safe and caring space. Therapy is designed to help children and young people understand and cope with their experiences, using methods that suit their age and stage of recovery.
We use different approaches depending on what works best for each child or young person. This can include talking, art, play, sand tray work, and group or family sessions. For younger children, we might use drawing, painting, puppets, dolls, or role play. For older children and teens, we offer smaller talking spaces and creative therapies to help express feelings without needing to use words right away. Everything we do is focused on helping each person feel safe, understood, and supported as they begin to heal.
We offer a 6-week programme to help you learn how your body and brain work together to feel safe and calm. You won’t need to talk about your experiences. Instead, the sessions focus on helping you understand your feelings and learn ways to cope when things feel too overwhelming. The programme is trauma-informed and takes place once a week with one of our therapists, in a space that supports your healing at your own pace. This isn’t in a group there is just you and your therapist.

We recognise that it is not easy supporting your child through their therapy process and that you may want to speak with someone for help in supporting your child and exploring ways that your childs process may be impacting your own experiences. This can be also be done by referring into the adult counselling service as a ME TIME parent/carer
As well as 1:1 counselling we also deliver a trauma informed brief intervention programme. This is a six week programme that helps parent/carers to learn about how their body and brain work together when they are feeling either safe or unsafe. The programme also helps parent/carer to support their children and learn some of the techniques tat they will be learning during their own sessions. During the Healing Together programme parent/carers are not expected to talk about their experiences, this is a space to gain more understanding and learn ways to regulate themselves and to help support their child doing so.
The Healing Together trauma informed programme can also be delivered in a group setting. The group would consist of up to four parent/carers of children in the ME TIME service. The programme is delivered in the same way as it is on a 1:1 basis however the experience is shared with other parents. The group runs for six weeks and will be facilitated by two Healing Together facilitators who are also qualified therapists.
